Once you understand Who Jesus Is, you may wonder how to surrender your life and begin following Him. The Bible says that “faith is being sure of what you hope for and certain of what you do not see.” (Hebrews 11:1). By God’s power and guidance, we are able to receive His gift by responding in simple steps of faith.
BELIEVE JESUS CAN SAVE YOU
Jesus alone can rescue you from your sin. No matter how good a life we try to live, we still fall miserably short of being a good person. That is because we are all sinners. We all fall short of God’s desire for us to be holy. The Bible says, “No one is righteous (perfect in God’s ways)—not even one” (Romans 3:10). We cannot become who we are supposed to be without Jesus Christ. The first step of to following Jesus is the recognition that He came to save you from you sin (John 3:16)
REPENT OF YOUR SIN
The Bible tells us to “repent and turn to God that your sins may be wiped out and times of refreshing may come from the Lord...” (Acts 3:19). The word “repent” means to turn around and change our direction in life. A second step of faith involves admitting your sin, turning away from it and committing to follow the teachings of God’s Word.
CONFESS JESUS AS LORD
Jesus died on the cross and came back to life for you. The Bible tells us to “Confess with our mouths that Jesus is Lord and believe in our heart that God raised Him from the dead...” (Romans 10:9). This is the Good News—that God loves us so much that He sent His only Son to die in our place when we least deserved it. It is vital to confess who Jesus Christ is and the reality of the resurrection.
BE BAPTIZED INTO CHRIST
If you believe, repent and confess—then your next step is to be baptized. The Bible says, “We were therefore buried with Him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.” (Romans 6:4). Baptism is a picture of being buried with Christ and raised to a new life. If you would like to have a relationship with Christ, you can start by simply praying this prayer of repentance and confession from your heart:
