The entire Bible tells one story that points to Him. Over thousands of years and thousands of pages, His was coming was promised and people waited. He came to change the world one life at a time. At Gateway, we believe that our part in God’s story begins and ends with knowing who Jesus is.
JESUS IS SAVIOR
Jesus came to rescue captives who could not save themselves. He became human to live among us, suffer like us, and die for us. He healed the sick, raised the dead, touched lepers, and dined with prostitutes and tax collectors. He sought out the broken in their misery and need, not because they deserved it, but because of His mercy. He went to the cross to take the punishment for our rebellion against God and He died a physical death to pay the penalty for our sins. There’s only one thing that would lead Jesus to do this: He deeply loves you.
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)
JESUS IS LORD
Jesus came back to life three days after being crucified and appeared to many eyewitnesses. He conquered death so that we may have eternal life with Him. Through Jesus’s resurrection from the dead, something breathtakingly extraordinary happened. Everything He ever claimed for Himself was vindicated and His resurrection gives us victory today. We, who were once slaves to our own desires, living in malice and envy, now find rest in His presence. We, who were once scattered, lonely, hateful enemies now gather as family. He has given us freedom, a hope, a song to sing, and good news to share.
“Therefore God exalted Him to the highest place and gave Him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” (Philippians 2:9-11)
JESUS IS RETURNING
Jesus is alive today and will one day return to the earth to call His people home. This great event is described for us many times in Scripture. There are over 300 passages that deal with Christ’s return. Jesus spoke of it at least 21 times when He walked this earth. He is coming to judge the world in righteousness. Jesus will right wrongs and bring justice to a world of injustice. There will be a final day of judgement where the small and the great will be called to account for their lives. For those who have placed their faith in Him, He will remove all sorrow, all sin, all shame, and all sadness.
“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in Me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with Me that you also may be where I am.” (John 14:1-3)
JESUS IS GOD
Jesus is not merely a man, just another prophet or good moral teacher. He is God in the flesh. All things were made through Him, and in Him we find our purpose. He is the bread of life, the light of the world, the way, the truth, the resurrection, and the life. Jesus was born through the miracle of a virgin birth, lived a sinless life. He is eternal and yet He crossed heaven and earth to have a personal relationship with you.
“The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of His being, sustaining all things by His powerful word. After He had provided purification for sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.” (Hebrews 1:3)
